pick up your phone and...
We had a great discussion on HUNGER yesterday in this week’s LIVE video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmwww3Tcklk
Yes, tackling hunger may be about 80% of the game in weight loss — recognizing when it’s actual hunger (and knowing it almost always is driven by hormones and emotions).
The good news and bad news about hunger is that hunger is largely TRAINED.
The good news: You can train your hunger.
The bad news: What you ate yesterday has trained you for today.
How do you stop snacking today when yesterday you trained yourself to snack?
There were lots of good ideas in the video, but take note of one by Patricia: Track what you’re about to snack on.
DO THIS
Open your phone:
“Siri: How many calories are in a cup of pistachios?”
Siri answers “691”
That quarter cup of pistachios has about 175 calories.
That’s not a huge amount.
Pistachios have a lot of healthy properties. You could find a lot of reasons to eat them.
The reason not to? Though I hesitate to overly-obsess over the calories in a quarter cup of pistachios, those extra calories eaten every day for a month, will set your weight loss goal back about two pounds.
I simply keep stuff like this out of my house when I need to be extra-strict.
I focus on other things, things that capture my brain and are non-edible.
FOCUS ELSEWHERE
Yes, structure activities with intention. Strategically fill your hours with something besides the pistachios.
Anything else.
I am learning Spanish. I have a brain injury and need to challenge my cognition anyway. Spanish is a great skill and it also allows me to dream of renting a kayak on a beach in Mexico: “Cuánto cuesta?”
You too could learn Spanish instead of snacking and meet me on a beach in Mexico. 🙂
How’s that for a weight loss strategy?
