Tasty Tuesday (on a "rainy day")

remembering two special people

I woke up this morning SICK but, luckily, I was ready to feed myself on a sick day.

I ate a soup from my freezer.

Despite it being summer and hot, it was really pretty satisfying with a queasy stomach.

If you don’t already do it, I would put up complete meals in your freezer for times like these. The skillets book offers a lot of options. The Zuppa Toscana in the photo above is a crowd favorite and right here on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gAQit70es8

Rainy Day People

Otherwise, I have mostly been laying around here today listening to Gordon Lightfoot’s “Rainy Day People.”

It’s a song about the friends you can count on during those “rainy days.”

It makes me wonder if I am actually sick or if this is simply a “rainy day.” I expect I already know the answer….

It’s been a tough week in this community.

We lost community member Rozie Zappo Doe. Rozie was one of the community’s “rainy day people,” there for counsel and encouragement on rainy days.

In fact, Virginia Jennings just told me that Rozie helped Virginia through her husband’s hospice stay. (Rozie had been an executive at a hospice organization.)

Virginia’s husband passed a month ago and, little could we have expected that Rozie would be called soon after Virginia’s husband Gary. Virginia lost two of her “rainy day people” in a month. <3

Rozie

The Bear Memorial

Sometime soon I will venture into the forest and find a way to remember both Rozie and Virginia’s husband Gary. I have a remembrance ritual here in the community that is special to me. I am building up the spirit to do it. This video gives you a sense of the ritual: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvOoF0dDiWg

The rain brings the flowers…. we should all go out and find some beautiful ones.
