Tasty Tuesday (what's in my bowl)

stinging what??

In partnership with

Those odd items up there? They are all currently in my cup of soup.

This past year I have been eating 2-3 meals a day (instead of the one big meal you may know me for). The last few weeks, two of those meals have been a lot like what’s in this cup today.

It’s a riff on the Ridiculously Big Soup recipes we have floating around — just a bone broth base but with a lot of highly nutritional items. You can see in the photo that this one has aloe vera, taro root, garlic, ginger, turmeric, and stinging nettle. (Yes, stinging nettle that I foraged in the wild! It’s very nutritious and the stingers cook out.) Sometimes I add protein to the soup. It just depends on how I’m feeling.

I cooked the items and then blended them until the soup looked like what’s in the cup below. It’s simple, satisfying, and bumping up my nutrients.

We need to be adaptable with concepts like this so we can make it through the more difficult times.

Sometimes We Need To Go “All In”

Speaking of difficult times, sometimes in like these health episodes force us to focus on them, as we work to get through. Sometimes those will involve weight: If we need to get more pounds off before we have our knees replaced, or if our extra weight has heightened our cardiac risk for some reason.

In those times, it is somewhat natural to think we can juggle our health with everything else, and sometimes we can. However, sometimes we really would benefit in the long-term by going “all in,” and I encourage you to be ready to do that should you ever need to.

Many of us CAN go “all in,” focusing all of our time and energy on our health concern, if it IS critical to our long-term health.

I Am “All In” Right Now

Right now, back here, I am “all in” as I work through my injury recovery. All of these months I have tried to juggle other competing needs, but I see that I need to give it my entire focus for a time. I have reduced my work to this email and some work in the Deep Den. I will do a couple of more public LIVE videos and then I will be off for the summer.

I mention all of this in case you are in a similar situation. Sometimes it is simply more efficient to go “all in” so that we can benefit from the progress. In my case, if I am going to get back some of my cognitive losses (e.g mental math and vocabulary choice), I need to work harder and I might as well have the work behind me.

This Summer’s Deep Den and Maintenance Course

This “All In” issue will definitely be a theme this summer in the Deep Den, our member-funded community. We will be going through our maintenance course together. The course is called “Wrangle the Regain,” a great course if you’re struggling with regain, but a really good course even if you’re in a weight loss phase. The issues in the course are universal for us and our life-long weight struggles.

Consider joining our member area here: https://eatlikeabear.com/the-deep-den/

I know some people are opposed to membership fees, so I also offer the maintenance course separately here, as a one-time price (it’s part of the Deep Den so you don’t need both): https://thebearshop.life/products/wrangle-the-regain
