The Absolute KEY to Success

have you considered this?

First, a brag: That kid up there in the photo with me graduates from college tomorrow in Civil Engineering at UC Davis. That’s my oldest, Frederick, who you may recognize from the Postcard from Yellowstone photos.

As I reflect on his milestone I am completely struck by a core life point.

Frederick is graduating with a job offer for a really good job. It feels like an absolute miracle in this economic climate.

Is it because he’s the smartest guy in his class or the best student at UC Davis?

Frederick’s pretty smart, but he’s definitely not the best student at UC Davis and he would agree with me completely.

However, he did something at Davis that set him apart from 99% of the students here: He showed up consistently through many trying times.

Consistency IS the key that set him apart and it sets us all apart as well.

He was consistent through EVERYTHING: The good and the bad.

He started his college years in COVID, getting scolded for even sitting near another student. He nearly failed a class or two in the process.

He had some tough seasons along the way. He juggled, remained a diligent implementer, and made it through. He achieved his core goal: A good job in his field.

He didn’t need to be the best to reach this goal and he wasn’t, but his job is an excellent fit with good pay and benefits, a better fit than the offers of many of his classmates, including students who performed better academically.

We all need to be more like Frederick.

If we can be consistent in our daily decisions and stay focused on our long-term goals, we will stand out from 99% of society and we will dramatically change our lives.

Consistency.

Show up every single day for yourself and see how your life changes.
