Would this one change make you fat?

you know it ...

First, I hope you are well and I am excited to see you tomorrow for our LIVE video. I hope you can make it.

In the LIVE video, we will spend a few minutes discussing adapting meals for more protein. You can also ask me anything. Find it here Wednesday at 9 am Pacific, noon Eastern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgmF9iUcxRs

Adapting For Protein and More

Anytime we are trying to lose weight and need to add MORE of something, we’re definitely at high risk of stalling or worse… gaining weight.

But what about protein? It’s a key part of nutrition and weight loss, so what if we seek to add more? I get asked this all the time.

People get frustrated with my straight-forward answer: Add more protein.

For many people, it’s as simple as that.

For other people it is far more nuanced.

My husband can take our Ridiculously Big meal approach and add an entire extra steak and lose weight. I can eat an extra steak in maintenance, but to lose weight, I would need to be much more strategic with my whole meal to make much room for extra steak.

But, yeah, if I ate like my husband, I’d pack on those pounds again. (Of course…)

It’s a discussion we’ll touch on tomorrow and that we are digging into deep this spring in the Deep Den area at Eat Like a Bear.

17 Pounds in 30 Days

When I Adapted And Lost 17 Pounds in 30 Days

A year ago I lost 17 pounds in 30 days eating with my main Ridiculously Big meal approach, but I was also out walking and hiking at least five miles a day. I definitely had more protein cravings than usual.

I tend to follow my protein cravings by adding protein. I never follow cookie cravings by adding cookies. 🙂

In those 30 days, I added more protein to about half of my days. I added two or three scrambled eggs an hour or two before my Ridiculously Big ole meal.

Adding the eggs worked well and was formulaic enough to keep it all easy and to keep me on track.

In those 30 days I also ate only “salad kits” with some sort of added protein (in addition to those eggs I mention).

Salad kits are the bagged salads that come with dressing and usually some sort of crunchy topping like nuts or bacon bits. In some cases, I ate the salad kits just as they came, right out of the bag. In others I adapted them a bit. I showed each meal on TikTok but I do have people ask for more detail on each.

I didn’t realize there was such interest in salad kits in our Eat Like a Bear community — all these years I have been a “make it myself” person. As I sit here recovering from a brain injury, I really appreciate such conveniences.

This makes me wonder: Do you eat salad kits or want to? Would you be interested in me describing to you here in this newsletter what I would do with a specific salad kit?

Really, there are all sorts of options once you get into the groove and figure out what’s working for you. If you need any help with that, please explore our resources here at Eat Like a Bear. Here’s our community questions area for one: https://www.eatlikeabearden.com/c/frequently-asked-questions/

And, of course, tomorrow you can ask me anything in that LIVE video above. 🙂

That’s it! I appreciate you.
